Rotterdam has a strong specialty coffee scene. The harder part is finding places that hit the sweet spot: proper coffee and a setup that does not make laptop people feel awkward.

We pulled together the places we would actually send a friend to for a great cup, a focused work session, or both. None of these are ranked. They are simply reliable picks, each with its own strengths.

One note before you go: laptop policies can change with the season, staffing, and how busy a place is. If a cafe is full, be flexible and treat it like a cafe first.

1) COPPI Koffie & Fietsen#

Best for bike vibes, good coffee, and a longer work session in Rotterdam Noord

Coppi is a classic Rotterdam combo: a bike-workshop vibe and specialty coffee in one place. We really love how those two worlds come together here. The crowd is always great, with a nice mix of students studying, people working for an hour or two, and families stopping in for lunch.

If you are staying a bit longer, order something small again. It keeps places like this sustainable.

2) Man met bril#

Best for a city favourite with consistently strong coffee

Man met bril is a Rotterdam staple. It is the kind of place you can bring a laptop to without turning the room into an office vibe, and the coffee quality is consistently high. They also have dedicated spots where laptops are allowed, which is always nice :)

Keep your setup small. This place works because it still feels social.

3) Cafe @Home#

Best for deep focus in a spacious setup just outside the city centre

Cafe @Home is quite a huge place, with some round tables that make longer work sessions comfortable. It sits just a little outside of the city centre, and it is also a nice option if you want more than coffee, their soup options are genuinely good.

Bring a power bank anyway. Being independent from outlets makes every cafe visit smoother.

4) Harvest Cafe & Bakery#

Best for great coffee plus breakfast or lunch

Harvest is a safe bet when you want specialty coffee and you also want food that feels like a real meal. It can get busy, so it is often best for a productive sprint rather than an all-afternoon session.

Honestly, this might be our favourite Rotterdam spot when it comes to lunch and pastries. That said, the last time we visited on a weekend it was very full, and it did not feel very laptop-friendly then (and not always during weekdays either).

If you want to work, aim for off-peak hours and be ready to wrap up if the place fills up. And do not pin us on this forever, if the laptop vibe has changed, feel free to contact us.

5) Giraffe Coffee Bar & Academy#

Best for classic Rotterdam specialty coffee in the city centre

Giraffe is one of the names that comes up again and again when people talk about Rotterdam’s specialty coffee scene. The Coffee Bar & Academy is right in town, so it is an easy “meet here first” spot before you head deeper into the city.

If you are coffee-curious, this is a fun place to try a filter coffee and slow down for a bit.

6) Schot Coffee Roasters#

Best for roaster vibes and buying beans for home

Schot Coffee Roasters runs a roastery and bar in the Diepeveen Gebouw/De Huidenclub. They roast weekly in small batches on a Giesen W15, with a focus on washed, honey, and natural coffees.

It is in Delfshaven, on the west side of Rotterdam, and it is a great reminder that Rotterdam is a real roaster city. If you care about beans, this is one of the best stops to add to your routine, especially if you are building your home setup.

Grab a bag of beans on the way out. Your future self will thank you.

Bonus: Rotterdam roasters to know#

If you like exploring beans (or you want to bring a Rotterdam coffee souvenir home), these are three local roasters worth knowing:

Quick etiquette that keeps you welcome#

  • Keep your setup small: one laptop, one drink, one table.
  • If you stay longer, order again.
  • If it gets busy, be ready to wrap up or move on.

Final sip#

Rotterdam is a city where specialty coffee feels normal, not niche. If you want a work-friendly spot, start with the places above, and then explore more via koffiework.
